Sweden: 3.440 songs for Melodifestivalen 2009 |

 SVT, the Swedish broadcaster, announced that 3.440 songs were submitted for Melodifestivalen 2009, the Swedish selection for Eurovision.
Just 28 songs out of the 3.440 will be selected for Melodifestivalen.
Four semi finals, a 2nd chance round (four wild cards) and the final, will be the format of the competition.
The dates of Melodifestivalen 2009 are:
- 07 February - 1st semi final - Scandinavium, Göteborg
- 14 February - 2nd semi final - Skellefteå Kraft Arena, Skellefteå
- 21 February - 3rd semi final - Ejendals Arena, Leksand
- 28 February - 4th semi final - Malmö Arena, Malmö
- 07 March - 2nd chance round - Himmelstalundshallen, Norrköping
- 14 March - Melodifestivalen final - Globen, Stockholm
Last year Sweden participated in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Hero', performed by Charlotte Perrelli.
